Goats that invaded a Welsh town have raised over £120,000 for good causes

Back in March this year, you probably heard a widely-circulated, quirky news story about a herd of Kashmiri goats. They made international headlines for descending on the empty streets of the sleepy town of Llandudno in Wales while residents were in lockdown — but what have they been up to since? Well, it’s lovely news…

The shaggy goats have helped St David’s Hospice in the small Welsh town raise over £120,000. This has given the care provider the financial lifeline it needed.

Following the global media attention, which reported the group of marauding goats helping themselves to flowers from locals’ gardens for lunch, St David’s Hospice began selling goat-printed merchandise. The collection included mugs, tote bags, clothing items and soft toys and were sold in the gift shop. The idea was an attempt to give the shop a much-needed boost after a funding crisis.

“COVID-19 has totally transformed life at the hospice. We had to unfortunately reduce our visiting for patients and the buzz of the place changed once the cafe had closed.”
